Wang Goes Six Strong For AAA Yanks

Chien-Ming Wang started for the Triple A Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees tonight against Charlotte. The sinkerballer, who struggled mightly in three starts for the Yankees, had a pretty strong night. Here was his line:

6 IP, 3 HITS, 0 RUNS, 0 EARNED RUNS, 3 BB, 6 K's

Chad Jennings, the beat writer for the S/W-B Yanks, has some pretty good observation from the game. You can see the article here. Overall, it seemed Wang had good stuff all night. He was hitting the mid-90s on the radar gun, and his pitches had sink to them. He didn't allow an extra-base hit or allow a runner past second in his six innings.

However, after the game, Yankees GM Brian Cashman told reporters to assume Wang would stay in the minors. That means the Yankees will keep Phil Hughes in the rotation for one more go-around. But, if Hughes struggles and Wang has another solid start, I'd expect to see Wang back with the big club.

Interesting side note: The S/W-B Yanks will face Jose Contreras tomorrow night. Yankee fans might remember him from his days with the Yankees. He's been absolutely atrocious with the Chicago White Sox this season, so they sent him down to try and figure some things out.
